Letter from Dr. David & Kathy Arnett

With the growth and increasing stability of Grace Assembly of God and Graceland Early Childhood Development Center, it is time for us to turn the ministry of Grace over to someone who can live in the community and give their life in ministry to the church and people of Rogersville.

With God's help, we are certain that the ministries of Grace Church will continue without skipping a beat.  The ministry team assures us they will continue to serve and assist with the transition.  To be honest, with our recent travel schedules, the team members were carrying the burden of ministry with honor and dignity.

We pray that God will give wisdom to all involved in selecting a great new pastor to lead Grace Church in fulling its God-given vision and mission.

Grace is a district church. A district church selects a new pastor differently.  The typical steps are:

NOMINATION: The sectional committee will nominate a pastoral candidate.

INFORMAL MEAL:  The Church will meet the candidate in an informal setting -- a lunch or dinner.

Q & A: There will be a question and answer time with the candidate during the Sunday School Hour.

STRAW VOTE: The membership will have the opportunity to express their acquiescence through a "straw vote."  The presbyter will lead this meeting.

APPOINTMENT: The district officials will take all information under consideration and prayerfully appoint the next pastor.

Our Mission (What we are doing)

Our mission is to help people discover that the meaningful life they have always wanted is available through Jesus Christ.  Our mission is to introduce people to Jesus Christ and prepare them to worship Him and serve others.  To achieve these things, we will maintain a balance of:

  1. Worship — We give expression to our spirituality by worshiping God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
  2. Instruction — We prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (Matthew 28:20; Ephesians 4:12-13).
  3. Fellowship — We maintain mutually supportive relationships with other members of God’s family (Acts 2:42; 1 Thessalonians 5:11).
  4. Evangelism — We proclaim the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19; Luke 4:18; Acts 5:42).
  5. Service — We demonstrate God’s love through service to those in need (Matthew 25:31-46; Acts 2:45).

We offer a blended worship experience, rich with biblical content, and teaching that presents God’s answers for the issues of daily life.

Our Values (Who we are)

  1. Christ is the Head of our Church:  We acknowledge Christ as the head of our church and endeavor to emulate Him in all that we do (Ephesians 5:23; Philippians 2:1-5).
  2. The Bible is our Curriculum:  We are committed to the primacy of Scripture and strive to preach and teach God’s Word with integrity and authority (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
  3. Theologically-rich Worship:  We respond to the Presence of God with awe-filled, corporate expressions of adoration, exaltation, praise, thanksgiving, and supplication. We strive to maintain openness to the manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Our worship services include traditional and contemporary styles of music with Bible-based, Christ-centered lyrics (Psalm 29:2; 96:9; 100:1-5; Hebrews 12:28-29).
  4. Discipleship within Community:  We ask our people to participate in small groups where they may reach the lost, exercise their gifts and grow in Christ-likeness as they interact with others in a mutually supportive fellowship (Acts 2:44-47).
  5. Extending Hospitality:  We encourage our people to “practice hospitality to one another. And do it ungrudgingly.” (I Peter 4:9 Amplified Version). Hospitality encompasses welcoming, caring for and entertaining those who are not only regular attendees of Grace Assembly of God but especially visitors and anyone else God may place in contact with us. Hospitality should be offered up with a generous and kind spirit (Luke 14:13, Romans 12:13).
  6. Time and Sabbath Rest:  We at Grace Assembly of God understand and respect the time pressures that are placed on people in the 21st century.  Therefore, we will endeavor to never overextend the responsibilities of those who desire to minister at Grace. However, we do believe that each person should have an active role in the ministry of Grace. We also recognize the importance of a Sabbath rest for purposes of rejuvenation. We encourage time outside of organized church services to be spent enjoying the development of relationships (with family, other believers and unbelievers), recreation and rest (1 Corinthians 12:12-27, Exodus 20:8-11).
  7. Creativity and Broad-based Participation:  Recognizing that individuals are made in God’s image, yet possess various learning styles, we will strive to have multi-sensory worship services that encourage broad-based participation.  The goal will be to incorporate as many learning styles as possible (including, but not limited to music, art, literature, cinema, poetry, photography, drama, as well as  water baptism, Communion, anointing with oil, etc. (Genesis 1:26-27; Colossians 3:10; Psalm 63:1-5; 34:8; John 5:24; Romans 10:17; Matthew 14:36; Luke 24:39).

Our Vision (What we are becoming; our journey)

As individual members  —  We desire that each be:

  1. Born again (John 3:1-16).
  2. Baptized in water (Acts 2:38; 6:26-38).
  3. Baptized in the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:5; 2:1-4; 19:1-6).
  4. Attending church faithfully (Hebrews 10:25).
  5. Maintaining a consistent devotional life (Ephesians 6:18; 2 Timothy 2:15).
  6. Manifesting the fruit of the Spirit as they seek to live a life of holiness (Galatians 5:16-26).
  7. Ministering in the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Romans 12:4-8; Ephesians 4:11-16).
  8. Witnessing in the power of the Spirit (Mark 16:15-18; Acts 1:8).
